Jazzmouth returns
| Literary - general |
The Jazzmouth Poetry & Jazz Festival took a hiatus in 2011, but it’s coming back this spring with another all-star lineup of nationally known performers. The seventh Jazzmouth festival takes place in Portsmouth from April 26 to 29.
Jazzmouth seeks to uphold the beat tradition of combining jazz and poetry with four days of live performances from musicians and poets spread across several events at venues throughout downtown Portsmouth.
This year’s main event, the Jazzmouth Extravaganza, takes place at The Music Hall Loft on Saturday, April 28 at 7:30 p.m. The headliners will include poets X.J. Kennedy and Lawrence Kraman and musicians David Amram and Eric Mingus.
Other highlights include a screening of 1962’s “The Manchurian Candidate” at The Music Hall on Thursday, April 26 (Amram, who composed the film’s soundtrack, will be present), and an evening of jazz at The Press Room on Friday, April 27.
