3S launches concert series
The minds behind 3S Artspace have been staging concerts at various locations throughout the Seacoast over the past couple of years. Now, for the first time, they’re launching a music series in their own front yard.
Co-presented with The Wire, the Loading Dock Concerts kick off on Friday, June 22, at 3S on Vaughan Street in Portsmouth. Local and regional bands will use the building’s loading dock as an outdoor stage, while guests fan out across the shipping area. Shows continue every other Friday through August.
The series will present a range of themed styles, including pop-punk, jazz, bluegrass, indie rock, hip-hop and Americana. The opening concert on June 22 will feature Portland-based pop-punk rocker Kurt Baker, along with ZipGun Bomber, the latest project of former Guts bassist Nate Doyle.
Other shows include local jazz groups ftet and Jose Duque on July 6; bluegrass artists Dave Talmage and Mary Dellea on July 20; indie rock bands Tan Vampires and Worried Well on Aug. 3; and hip-hop acts Spose, Cam Groves and eyenine on Aug. 17. The final installment will include a reunion performance by Seacoast band Say Zuzu and a set from Portland’s The Mallett Brothers Band on Aug. 31.
In addition to the music, 3S will host a community open house prior to each performance to show off its new space, where plans call for a concert venue, art gallery and restaurant. White Heron Tea will supply food and beverages for sale at the shows.
All concerts run from 6 to 8 p.m. at 3S’s new home at 319 Vaughan St. in Portsmouth. A donation of $5 to $8 is requested, with all proceeds supporting the musicians. For more information, visit www.3sarts.org. —MK
