For at least one week, Portsmouth’s own vintage rock band The Connection laid claim to the world’s coolest song. “Underground Garage,” the nationally syndicated rock radio show hosted and produced by Steven Van Zandt, named the band’s “Seven Nights to Rock” the “Coolest Song in the World” last week.
Van Zandt is best known as the long-time guitarist for Bruce Springstreen’s E Street Band (with whom he recently performed at Fenway Park in Boston) and as an actor on HBO’s “The Sopranos” (he played the slick-haired, scowling gangster Silvio Dante). He highlights the “Coolest Song in the World” on his radio show each week, and “Seven Nights to Rock” received the honor on Aug. 10.
The song is the title track of an EP the Connection released earlier this year. A music video for the song, shot at The Press Room in Portsmouth, was named Underground Radio’s “Video of the Day” on Aug. 11.
The band recently released a brand new digital EP, titled “Comes & Goes,” to be promoted in a European tour in September. The three-song EP is available for download on Bandcamp.
