New shows announced: Thanks to Gravity, Cuban Choir and Granite State Choral
Thanks to Gravity to release new disc: There is now one more reason for fans of local legends Thanks to Gravity to check out the band’s upcoming performance at The Music Hall with the Portsmouth Symphony Orchestra—they’ll be releasing a new live EP.
The six-song CD, titled “Live 2012,” was recorded in January during Thanks to Gravity’s reunion show at The Music Hall in Portsmouth, following the premiere of the local documentary “In Danger of Being Discovered.”
The band will be performing with the Portsmouth Symphony during its season opening concert on Sunday, Nov. 4. The CD will be available at the show, and band members will stick around afterward to sign copies and chat with guests.
A limited pressing of the CD will also be available on iTunes, Amazon, Spotify and Google Play, along with the band’s back catalog.
Thanks to Gravity, an alternative rock band, formed on the campus of the University of New Hampshire in 1990 and self-released its first album a year later. They went on to release five more albums, tour nationally, and perform with Dave Matthews Band, Sinead O’Connor, Train, Matchbox 20, Edwin McCain, and Guster. They signed with Capitol Records in 1996 and released one CD with the label.
The concert in January was Gravity’s first performance in 12 years, and the live disc is their first recording in more than 14 years.
The Portsmouth Symphony Orchestra’s season opener begins at 3 p.m. at The Music Hall, 28 Chestnut St., Portsmouth, 603-436-2400. Tickets are $20.
