Exploring Dover by foot
Residents of and visitors to the Garrison City are invited to participate in the city’s newly initiated exercise campaign, Walk Dover. Citizens of Dover launched the six-month pilot program on July 18 with the intention of encouraging city-wide exploration and promoting community involvement.
Walk Dover features signage at 20 iconic sites on city streets. The signs display information about the locations, as well as the campaign’s website, www.walkdover.org. Walkers can visit the website for further details regarding the marked sites.
Program founder Michele Alexander says Walk Dover will help promote local businesses and services in downtown Dover by combining social media with community outreach. She said the program aims to inspire people to explore local landmarks while exercising.
Walk Dover was approved by the City Transportation Advisory Committee in April and is supported by Seacoast Local and other companies in the area. Walkers can access a mapping website through Google on their mobile phones that will guide them through the program’s sites. This technology is provided by Mandias Consulting, a local web development firm.
