The First United Methodist Church of Portsmouth will host an upcoming event for people who have suffered loss from suicide or are “in a mental battle.”

Presented by the Portsmouth Police Department and the Seacoast Suicide Prevention Coalition, the “Yes to Life” event takes place on Wednesday, Aug. 1.
The Portsmouth police chief and police chaplain will join a social worker and a suicide survivor for a panel discussion on the topic, followed by a question and answer session and small-group discussions.

The event is from 6 to 8 p.m. at 129 Miller Ave. in Portsmouth. Donations will go to the Suicide Prevention Coalition.
