Check out some local alternative transportation innovations at Phillips Exeter Academy’s first-ever Alternative Transportation Fair on Friday, May 19 from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. The fair coincides with the annual Bike/Walk to Work Day sponsored by Seacoast Area Bike Routes.
Fairgoers will get a chance to see a biodiesel tractor, a Segway personal transporter and PEA’s own “egg,” a miniature electric-powered security vehicle. Members of the UNH Biodiesel Group and the Boston chapter of ZipCar, a car-sharing program, will be on hand to answer questions. Bicyclists and walkers will be eligible to win a Wheel Power bicycle at the Commuter breakfast at the bandstand in Exeter before the fair between 7 and 10 a.m.For further information about the fair, contact Environmental Education Fellow Jennifer Wilhelm at 603-777-3765 or visit www.exeter.edu.
If the biodiesel tractor piques your interest, check out the home-brew biodiesel workshop being offered by the Oyster River Biofuel Initiative in Lee on May 19. Biodiesel expert Maria “Mark” Alovert will lead a workshop on how to brew your own biodiesel. The class will cover the chemistry behind the process only—no equipment will be constructed. To register, visit www.girlmark.com/tour2006.html or www.biofuelnh.com.
