Employment security commissioner steps down
New Hampshire Employment Security Commissioner Tara Reardon will resign at the end of August. Reardon is accused of instructing a state employee to lay off her daughter from a summer internship so that she could collect unemployment benefits.
Gov. John Lynch and the Executive Council accepted Reardon’s resignation on July 11, but she will remain on paid administrative leave until the resignation goes into effect at the end of August.Reardon has denied the allegations.
Deputy Commissioner Darrell Gates, who faces similar accusations involving his own daughter, also has been suspended with pay pending further investigation, Lynch’s office announced on July 12.
Lynch nominated Labor Commissioner George Copadis to serve as interim commissioner of Employment Security in Reardon’s absence. His nomination was confirmed by the Executive Council on July 16.
